If you need to install Windows 7 but don’t want to waste a DVD, or you want a speedy installation, you can use a flash drive in place of a DVD, using a single piece of free software.

Step 1.
Download “Linux Live USB”
Don’t be fooled by the name. This powerful piece of free software allows you to make all sorts of “Live CDs” for a wide variety of operating systems, including Windows.

Visit and download this Windows-only software.

Step 2.
Create the LiveUSB
After you’ve installed Linux Live USB, plug in your flash drive and fire it up.

Select your USB flash drive from the drop-down menu at the top.
Click on “ISO/IMG” and select your Windows 7 iso you already downloaded.
Click “Format the key”, and unclick “Enable launching in Windows”
Click the lightning bolt to begin the copying.

Step 3.
Reboot into Windows installation
Boot from the flash drive, and you can install Windows like normal.
